Go West Young Man (1987)

Fourteen black and white photomontage and text panels. Hand developed gelatin silver print mounted on board.

55.8 cm x 35.5 cm each Panel

This series was originally commissioned by the Ikon Gallery Birmingham, as part of their  ‘Community Touring Programme’ in 1987. These original black and white photomontage panels were further developed as a series of laminated hand tinted photocopies that toured to various community venues throughout Birmingham and the West Midlands in 1987-1988.


Original gelatin silver print series purchased was by the Tate in 2008.

The narrative structure of ‘Go West Young Man’ was further developed into a computer animation produced by Piper as part of the ‘Animate’ series funded by the Arts Council of England and Channel 4 in 1996.
